From January 2 to 9, 2023, MAKKABI Germany hosted the first Jewish Winter Games since 1936 in Ruhpolding, Bavaria, with over 400 participants from all over the world. They were last held in Poland in 1933 and in what was then Czechoslovakia in 1936. Then came the Holocaust. After the end of the Second World War, the MAKKABI clubs were rebuilt and the
Jewish Winter Games returned after 87 years.
The documentary tells the story of Jewishness, winter sports and community. Whether snow volleyball at an altitude of 2000 meters, figure skating, the big joint Shabbat or encounters with contemporary witnesses such as Shaul Ladany, the Israeli track and field athlete, Shoah survivor and survivor of the 1972 Munich Olympic bombing: it reviews milestones in
Jewish sports history as well as great emotional moments and human encounters and captures them in images, texts and documents for eternity. “Maccabi Chai - Maccabi lives!”
