In the Face of Death

“In the Face of Death” is the first cultural-historical exhibition on Jewish practices for dealing with dying, death and mourning. The book accompanying the exhibition at the Jewish Museum Frankfurt situates the works of art, media and objects in an anthropological as well as philosophical context. Over the course of 17 essays, renowned experts present new medical research, discuss ethical questions, examine comparative religious perspectives and illuminate the role of death in the context of art and cultural history. With its multi-perspective approach, the book not only opens up a new approach to the final passage of life, but also addresses the human longing to understand death.
