Igor Turin has traveled the world documenting professional Jewish theatres. He covers both theatres in the Diaspora and the only Israeli theatre that performs in Yiddish. The focus is on stages that preserve Jewish culture and tradition, engage with Jewish themes, identify as Jewish theatres, and operate professionally. The photographs capture representative moments from rehearsals and performances and offer insights into the artistic diversity of this theatrical world. Accompanying texts outline the history, development, key figures, and significant productions of each theatre. It is the first comprehensive global documentation of all active professional Jewish theatres. Initiated from a personal impulse and shaped by the experiences of recent years, the project has developed into an impressive testament.
