Die Sprachforscherin Agathe Lasch (1879-1942) war die erste Germanistikprofessorin in Deutschland. 1909 an der Universität Heidelberg promoviert, lehrte und forschte sie zunächst mehrere Jahre an einem amerikanischen Frauencollege. 1919 habilitierte sie sich an der Hamburger Universität, wurde dort 1923 zur Professorin ernannt und 1926 auf das Extraordinariat für Niederdeutsche Philologie berufen. Als Frau konnte sich Agathe Lasch auf ihrem wissenschaftlichen Weg in Deutschland gegen alle Widrigkeiten durchsetzen, als Jüdin in Deutschland wurde sie dagegen Opfer der nationalsozialistischen Barbarei.
