Der Zeichner, Maler und Autor Kufelnizky wurde 1922 in Schleswig geboren und verbrachte seine Jugend in Kiel. Er war Mitglied des zionistischen Jugendbundes "Habonim". 1936 emigrierte er nach Palästina. Um sich ganz dem Aufbau einer Heimstätte für die Juden im Land ihrer Väter widmen zu können, verzichtete er auf eine Künstlerkarriere. Er schloss sich der Kibbuzbewegung an und war Mitbegründer der Siedlung Revivim in der Wüste Negev. Kufelnizky - der sich inzwischen Arjeh Yechieli nannte - beherrschte die Sprache der dort lebenden Beduinen und kleidete sich zeitweilig wie sie. 1947 während der arabischen Unruhen wurde er erschossen.
