Selma Stern (1890-1981) gilt als die "große alte Dame der deutsch-jüdischen Geschichtswissenschaft". Sie schrieb historische Standardwerke wie "Jud Süß" (1929), "The Court Jew / Der Hofjude im Zeitalter des Absolutismus" (1950 / 2001), "Der preußische Staat und die Juden" (1925-1975). Als erste Frau schuf sie ein umfassendes Werk zur deutsch-jüdischen Historiographie der Neuzeit.
