Bet Debora – the house of Debora – is a European-Jewish women’s network that is named after the biblical prophet, judge and politician. In 1999, Bet Debora held the first conference for European women rabbis, cantors, scholars and interested Jews in Berlin. This initial meeting was followed by five more in Berlin, Budapest, Sofia and Vienna, organized as open forums for discussions between Jewish women from Eastern and Western Europe, from communities, universities and initiatives, activists from the entire Jewish political spectrum, artists, scientists, rabbis, cantors and community politicians. Bet Debora Journal continues the conversations that began at these meetings.
